Unfortunately this program (I wrote it in 1992) is now a bit out of date. The drawn match's now have different points for checking to see if you have won the jackpot! Also one coupon now charges more per line. I'll have a go at updating it in the near To : 15A (Stephen Flintham) and 999 From : 4G7 J.R. Hay Subject: The Help Rom 1.01 Further to my letter to Stephen I find that in loading the Rom Image I did not *RWRITE the Rom bank and of course the Helpfile could not load properly. However, having said that, the details of the file "BASIC" provided as an example does load and can be called up by *HLP keyword, but the file which I prepared and SPOOLED without codes from Inter-Word will give me the list of key words but on calling *HLP (Keyword) will not give me the detailed text associated with that keyword. I happened to have access to a copy of Mini-Office II and prepared a file on the WP program using the ASCII file option to save it, with the same result. I prepared another file on Inter-Word and saved it as a 'marked' section. On calling *HLP I got the first Keyword and when I called *HLP 'Keyword' I got the first keyword details followed by the rest of the file, including the other keywords all as typed, including the [ which prefixes the keyword. Has anyone used this Rom Image with Inter-Word, and with what results? To : 999 (All) From : 15A (Steven Flintham) Subject: Trivial point - shadow memory I was looking through a copy of Bruce Smith's "View: A Dabhand Guide" the other day when I noticed that it advised the use of shadow mode 3 (131) if you owned a high-resolution monitor. Several other books/articles have recommended this in the past as well. What I can't understand is why users with shadow memory shouldn't use mode 128 (shadow mode 0). It's just as easy to read on a high-resolution monitor and gives an extra seven text lines without using any more main memory. Does anyone know the reason for this? To : 999 (All) From : 4G7 Subject: HINTS ON USING INTER-WORD. Text : 1. If the BBC B is fitted with a Shadow Ram Board (in my case an Aries B-32) and there is no Sideways Ram Image loaded into the Rom 14 slot, that slot lies unused. It can be used as a Printer Buffer. 2. If the WP package is being used mainly for correspondence the number of files will soon reach the DFS limit of 31. Even using the Multifile facility does not help. On the other hand, using the pages of the package as separate files can increase the disc capacity considerably. The files can be organised: By name, if a number of letters to a particular party are envisaged. By date if a number of letters are written per day/week/month. By subject. Short letters can even be written on the same page, if: a. The file is restricted to ten pages, leaving two pages at the end with which to juggle. b. The individual letters are given a full page to start and after printing they are re-formatted on to the previous page, before being SAVEd with the rest of the file. c. Re-printing any letter can be achieved by re-formatting that letter to a separate page for printing and then replacing to it's former position in the file. d. The cursor is left at the end of the last letter on the file before the file is SAVEd, the cursor will be at the same position when the file is next LOADed. 3. Once again, if the WP package is being used for letters it is possible to load the package and a pre-formatted page (e.g. letter-head) at the same time in a !BOOT file: *BUFFER PRINTER 14 *IW."LETHEAD" (ESC) There was an article in A & B Computing (October 1987) by Jon Vogler 'Down to Business' which covers the subject of Integration and devotes over four pages to the 'Inter' suite of programs of Computer Concepts and earlier review articles by Gordon Taylor on Inter- Sheet and Inter-Chart (September, November & December 1985), Inter-Word (August 1986), Inter-Base, (September 1987). To : 999 (All Members) From : 4G7 Subject: Has anyone come across a "TRS-80 Colour Computer Electronic Book"? This is a product of Tandy Computer Products Catalogue No. 26-3141 and consists of a three-ring looseleaf binder, the inside rear cover being a grid of three by four blocks numbered 1 to 12. It is intended to be used by plugging in to the 'analogue in' port. What function does it perform and how does one make use of it? I would imagine that it was on the market in 1984-86 and retailed at #16.95. 4G7's Name and address.... J.R.Hay
