D6G Sprow 999 Program: CMOSRAM This is included as part of a response to a member's letter. The file CMOSBAK has my setting in it and should be left in the ROOT dir. Readers with web access will be delighted to know that the program I submitted to Solinet originally has been updated and now supports ALL filing systems. It is also tested and working with Warm Silence Software's BBCEm if you're using the emulator on a 32 bit Acorn. On running it you'll be shown 6 tables and prompted to pick a number. Then, respond by stating which tables the number you chose appears on. The computer will then reveal your choice - and it DOESN'T do it by blindly going through each table,as that would take ages using IF...THEN commands. A more in depth look reveals that what you are really doing is definng the bit pattern of the binary number that makes up the number you chose. The 6 tables are the lookup tables for each of the 6 bits. What a laborious way of working out binary. Enjoy it anyway, if not for the maths, then for the amazement! It improves the one supplied with the package by adding additional help text in response to a *H.. or *H.ADFS or *H.DFS command. To use, drag it from your issue disc over the old VDFS in the !6502Em.ROMs directory. A few issues ago a childrens game called Hunt the Snib appeared in 8-Bit. It was a huge program which despite looking nice on the outside had a very ugly set of insides. (Apologies if the author is reading this...) In the spirit of saving disc space and good programming here is a 7 line long version of the game. Taking less than 8 tenths of a kilobyte memory (and 1k disc space). ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, To: 999 (all members) From: D5B (Jon Ripley) Subject: How many words... Following in the footsteps of Richard Harker and Paul Clucas I have compiled a list of all the words (3 letters +) that can be made out of the following names. Chris Richardson and Eight Bit Software Hopefully they're somewhere on this issue! If you would like me to make a list of your name then please let me know. If you send me your full name then you usually get better words! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, To: 999 (all members) From: D5B (Jon Ripley) Subject: Puzzles... Elsewhere on this issue you may find a puzzle that I have sent in for you all to ponder over. Send your answers in to 999 (Ref: Puzzle 001). Maybe Chris will have a prize for the first correct answer??? Next issue another puzzle! Maybe Chris could start a competition for the best 'title' screens sent in for each issue? I've started the ball rolling this issue with my submission, can anyone else out there come up with something for future issues? Maybe all the submissions could be put on the issue and we - the members - could judge the winner! Who knows, there may even be a prize! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
