MkMap - Build a ADFS/HADFS Free Space Map ========================================= J.G.Harston -- mdfs.net/Apps/Filing/Repairing MkMap is a tool that can be used help in repairing damaged ADFS and HAFS filing system structures. It scans through a directory structure and builds up what would be the matching free space map for it. This means that you can recreate a directory structure by using a sector editor to examine what MkMap reports as free space blocks to find the lost directories and files and manually put those entries back in. Rescan the disk and build another free space map, examine the free blocks and repeat. When run, MkMap prompts for the disk size, giving a default of what the current free space map claims is the disk size. It then scans through the existing disk structre and builds up the free space map that matches it. When finished, you can then write that new free space map back to the disk, or save it seperately as a file. ADFS does not have a command to find the sector start of an object, so MkMap reads it by using *INFO to display the object information and reading it from screen memory.
